Hospice Care

I have decided to pursue a new path in life.. I have been an ER nurse for 7 years. I recently had the opportunity to change to a new practice. I was given the chance to try hospice nursing. It has given my a new out look into life and mortality. I am not being morbid, but I really enjoy caring for terminally ill people. Everyone needs someone to care for them. Each of us want to be care about especially when we know the end is close. I enjoy taking care of people in nursing homes, many are left by family, and feel unwanted. Life has new meaning when you know there is not much time. My residents have severe dementia and Alzheimer's, yes, they too need someone to help. My heart breaks for the people who carry around baby dolls, like a toddler. The saying is so true that you come into this world as a baby and you leave this world as a baby. In my years as a nurse I have seen so much abuse and neglect, for all people in all walks of life. I have been blessed with the opportunity to care for the elderly and debilitated in a new way. A way for me to show how much you mean as a person. A way to, even if is not known, to show you are valued as a human.
